Irdeto’s Secure Chipset Solution Selected to Protect and Enable Orion Express DTH Service; Irdeto’s Secure Chipset to secure Orion Express client devices and deter piracy
AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands — Orion Express Ltd, the Russian SATELLITE TV operator, today announced that it has eliminated card sharing piracy attacks to its direct to home (DTH) service by implementing a secure chipset solution from Irdeto (Naspers – JSE: NPN), the global leader in securing and delivering premium content and digital assets. The service is received by more than 100,000 consumers throughout Russian Federation.
As card sharing and control word re-distribution piracy become more prevalent in the region, Orion Express is one of the first SATELLITE TV operators moving to a protected and managed set-top box (STB) solution. It implemented the Irdeto Secure Chipset to Continent TV, the company’s new platform, in February 2010 enabling greater protection of content, plus the ability to offer new packages and enhanced services to customers.
“We chose the Irdeto Secure Chipset solution because we needed a strong, experienced partner with proven technology to assist in protecting our STB against piracy,” said Konstantin Saltykov, CTO of Orion Express. “Irdeto has a demonstrated track RECORD in the industry and the region in providing a superior product with top level content security and aggressive anti-piracy strategies to ensure our business is successful.”
“Irdeto continues to combat the rise of card sharing and control word re-distribution piracy in the CIS region. We are answering the demand of operators to provide secure client device solutions for STBs and CAMS and we applaud the steps Orion Express has taken to protect their valuable content,” said David Canellos, senior vice president of sales and MARKETING for Irdeto. “This will allow them to provide the expanded services that their customers are demanding and generate higher revenue streams.”
